Liza Cunningham Hi James, welcome to Edison! This is a great experiment and you have lost a lot of weight in a short time already. I am curious to know more details about what you are trying and what seems to be working best for you? (different foods, smaller portions, more exercise, etc...). Good luck!

Matthew Cornell Great experiment, James; thanks for sharing with us. 12 pounds to date is awesome - good work! I lost 15 pounds a while back by tracking the first two - food and exercise, but didn't think to use something like http://www.fitbit.com/, which would have been super helpful. Re: meeting your goal, I've found it an opportunity to "spin" it positively, i.e., by thinking about what success means.
Let us know how we can support you.

eware3000 James, congrats! Tell me, why do you think you've had success in your experiment? I took a look at fitbit.com do you think "It" made a difference?

James Ledoux Experiment results - Nov 20 - Dec 20th lost 12.6 lbs of weight.
Did not meant 100% of goal but feel pretty good abut the results.
Fitbit - The fitbit site was a huge hlep as it helps log in caloreis vs activity. Though this could be done via Edison, a traditional paper log, or even EXCEL.
Steps for next experiment. Increase cardio and weight lifting.
Will formalize plan and post a new one starting this week.

James Ledoux Looking back at my food logs the few stumbling points seem to all coincide with holiday parties. :-)
Need to eat ahead of time, drink more water,a nd stay focused to avoid the "grazing" that often packs on lot sof extra calories while at parties.

Brock Tice Great experiment, James! Having done a lot of food and exercise tracking to get my lifestyle back on track in the past, and starting up again now, I have to say that sometimes it's okay to have little blips. It can get kind of soul-crushing to never have a break. As long as the overall trend is steadily downward you'll be fine.
One thing to consider is to avoid the starvation response, you may want to allow yourself one "free" day a week without tracking. We used to do this on Saturday, and it can actually make losing easier, both physiologically and mentally.

Matthew Cornell Sweet! Public accountability helps, no?

James Ledoux And yes Matt the public accountability is key for me.
The scale Tweets my weigh in and my Facebook account picks up the Tweet.
The positive pressure of all the encouragement is helping keep me on track.
Cheers,
James
