turn off Gmail's inbox unread count

1

What will you do?

use the google labs feature that: "Hides the unread counts for inbox, labels, etc." http://mail.google.com/mail/#settings/labs . I'll evaluate whether it changes my inbox sniffing behavior. I'm still using the '"You click, it sticks" email rule' (http://edison.thinktrylearn.com/experiments/show/47) using my Mac Gmail desktop widget (http://matthewcornell.org/2009/08/control-your-email-addiction-checking-more-often.html), which continues to help a lot.

2

How will you test your idea and measure success?

o Will it help me check less often?
o Will I notice that the counts are not there?
o Will it change my widget use?

Success: knowing whether it works or not.

3

How will you know you are done?

I'll give it a few weeks.

4

How will you enjoy the journey?

Satisfying my curiosity about the feature. Sharing it with my blog readers.

Matthew Cornell Haven't actually noticed much difference, mainly because I'm using the Mac dashboard setup I wrote about.
