I'll email them to set up a phone call in the next three days. I'll ask TTL-based questions of the very large experiment they're recommending. The questions are at: http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AbYwd0BmSUF7ZDV4azdxcF8xMGNyZzk5Y2R0&hl=en |

Actually getting to talk, asking my questions, and listening to their answers with an open mind. |

Thu eve. |

Trying to stay open. Listening with "a health sense of detachment." Considering how scientific their approach is, i.e., what their answers are. Getting to know them. |

Matthew Cornell sent an email to them all (BCC). I emailed one of them two days ago, with no response. I'm curious if he'll reply to this second one.

Matthew Cornell Interesting TTL observation: I was a little stressed about the response of one of the people, but thinking "I'll enter it into Edison" chilled me out a bit. Nice.

Matthew Cornell Talked to one of the board leaders yesterday afternoon. Her argeumebts were reasonable, but I don't yet know enough to discern underlying assumptions and biases. Was thinking about stopping the calls, but I'll play it out a bit more. Will talk to another this am.

Matthew Cornell Definitely not enjoying the ride: much at stake, seems like a Done deal, seems like result will be worse, no control, irreversible. Advice?

Matthew Cornell Talked to a second person, who drew the redistricting lines. Again, consistent answers, but the result is still the same: The board will decide, and input probably won't matter. I did make a little discovery around our neighborhood, which I shared with my neighbor. Trying to resign myself to the outcome, of which I have almost no control. Gee, like the dead Medicare for All!

Matthew Cornell will let it go and complete the experiment

Dan Owen Just curious: is there a connection between this experiment and your "National (or any) News Driving you Nuts?" blog post? The issue of "how do I influence political situations that influence me?" seems to come up in both, and have unsatisfying outcomes.

Matthew Cornell Yes. In this case, the lack of control nationally should be offset by local control. But in this case, there is no local control either. The control point was the election of the school committee. So it goes. At this point, we'll make the best of it.
