attract and keep new Edison users

1

What will you do?

Now that 2.0 is out I have all the features I need to demonstrate what people can do with Edison. Now all I need is more users, in addition to the wonderful ones who use it now :-) I'd welcome any of your advice!

2

How will you test your idea and measure success?

I'll be trying various techniques, but I'm very new to this. Thus, it's an experiment. It's important to track how well changes translate into improvements, so I'll need to learn more about https://www.google.com/analytics/ . Wild success = 100 active users.

3

How will you know you are done?

I'll give it a few months.

4

How will you enjoy the journey?

Try to enjoy learning about this stuff. Enjoy applying the 80-20 rule by making tiny changes to the site. Enjoy learning about interesting niches whose people might be interested.

Matthew Cornell First step: I'm writing to some people who are leaders in different niches - productivity and becoming self-employed, for starters. I'm very curious to see if the idea clicks for them.

Matthew Cornell implemented some new, small features:
1. show comment place-holder below all experiments if not signed in
2. remove tags line for experiments on All Experiments feed page [done a week ago]
3. reduce tag cloud to ~30 top ones. make font sizes bigger - dynamic range more like flickr.com
4. add static help info on "Your Experiments" page when blank (no experiments yet)
5. add listing of categories to top of All Experiments feed page
6. make data activity lines be links to that experiment's Data tab

I need to collect bounce data soon, too.

Matthew Cornell Thanks for asking, Mark. Edison activity has gone very low, which is data. The next step would be the kinds of analysis I mentioned in reply to your query here: organize a local men's nonfiction book club http://edison.thinktrylearn.com/experiments/show/386

Stacey Summitt Mann Absolutley LOVE this site...keep working on the improvements! It was exactly what I needed at the right time, and oddly enough..I found it searching google while trying to come up with my own idea for a blog. One section in terms of marketing--have you thought about getting this into the classroom? I teach high school and see many applications here--from psychology classes, to science classes, english and social media studies, to even special education and behavior plan tracking. Especially when you add the graphing component for some visual aids, could be very powerful.

Matthew Cornell Thanks so much, Stacey. Sounds like you get the idea behind this. I like your classroom idea. If you have some thoughts on next steps, feel free to run them past me ( http://www.matthewcornell.org/contact/ ). Right now I'm focusing on the money-earning side of my life, but self-experimentation and my Think, Try, Learn philosophy are still percolating.
