Conditioning Only instead of Shampooing(Group)

Group Experiment Summary

I am trying the "conditioning only" method for washing hair which means no shampoo, just using conditioner to cleanse the hair. The idea is that shampoo dries hair and prevents the hair's natural sebum from doing its job. Conditioner is able to clean hair without the harsh chemicals in shampoo. I will watch to see if my hair becomes more shiny, softer, and healthier without looking limp. Plus if it works, the added bonus is saving tons of money on expensive hair products.

Instructions

• Apparently cheap conditioners like Alberto VO5 Clarifying Condition and Suave are really good. Or a conditioner which is free of silicons and parabens.
• Wet hair thoroughly using hot water
• Apply conditioner to roots and massage in like you would with shampoo (but there will be no lather)
• Rinse and style
• Avoid other styling products if possible
• For added shine after styling I use a little coconut oil on the ends

Please note: it can take 3-4 washes before the natural oils in the hair start to work on their own. And every few months, a gentle shampoo is okay.

Lizzy I washed my hair yesterday using this method and I loved the results. My hair had tons of body. It is still dry looking but I will observe if this changes over the coming washes.

Senka Majkina Alapaca I condition my hair without washing once in a while, but I never thought of not washing it for a month. I might try for a week to see what happens :)

Lizzy It's been a month of using conditioner only to wash my hair and I love the results. My hair is getting less dry, it's growing faster (which is also related to vitamins) and it has tons of body and volume. My routine is to wash daily using a silicone free conditioner. Blow dry without any hair styling products (I don't need any at all, which is a miracle!). After blow-drying, use a tiny bit of coconut oil on the ends for added shine. Amazing, I used to spend so much money on hair products which damaged my hair and this method is a thousand times better. Success.
