Use your.flowingdata with Twitter to record daily events. The point is to get a personal informatics habit going. Once it's established, I'd like to go on alternating baseline periods with experimental periods. This will give me real data on how my experiments are affecting my life. |

I'll try to start telling your.flowingdata (henceforth yfd) about anything I think worth noting. If I can do it consistently and not find myself days later wishing I'd tweeted stuff, that'll be good. I'm willing to give it a few tries. |

If it's just too much overhead for me to tolerate, I'll drop it. Otherwise, I hope to settle into a comfortable habit of updating my information. I may fall somewhere in the middle and have to re-examine my position. I'm going to commit to trying this until the end of July. PLEASE NUDGE ME TO UPDATE on this, I think I'm going to need help to get started. |

1) New toy/tech, which the wife says I am ever seeking, 2) maybe I'll learn some interesting things about myself, 3) if this works, it'll totally ratchet up my TTL-fu to a new level. |

Matthew Cornell Interesting that you're using a free-form text format (IIUC), rather than a more structured one. But I understand that it's the habit you're ingraining, which makes sense - I'm assuming it's very fast for you to enter yfd data. As I say, we definitely need quantitative data capture for Edison, so I'm curious to hear how that fits with this experiment. I'll try to look for nudge opportunities. (Auto nudge is another item on our list.) Good experiment, Brock.

Brock Tice yfd is sort of freeform, but there's actually a syntax to it that makes a lot of sense. It's flexible but concise. Learning as I go with it.

Matthew Cornell Damn that's cool! I wonder if it's a good candidate for the quantitative front end for Edison. Kinda geeky, though. :-)

Brock Tice A few times I've caught myself not recording something I wanted to. So far I've been able to go back and enter things once I remember without too much forgetfulness. It's nice that I can retroactively record something by tacking "at <time>" on the end of my tweet.

Brock Tice Fell off the wagon big time, between being overworked and vacation. Trying again.

Matthew Cornell Remind me again what you're specifically tracking?

Brock Tice I'm actually giving up on this. Way too much overhead. I have to stop in the middle of what I'm doing and update. Would probably work better without a constantly-moving toddler to attend to.

Brock Tice I should say though, I really like YFD.
