Fredrik This was fun and didn't require much effort from me. What I learnt was keeping more notice on other people to find situations to help out.

Matthew Cornell Well done, Fredrik. Thanks for sharing it with us. I need to do more of this - good modeling. Re 'keeping an eye open for nice little things to do for others', I had a chance to do exactly that. We have a friend that my wife hikes with, and the friend is unstable while walking. She's fallen a few times, but still wants to get out. A few weeks ago I saw a hiker while I w... See more

Overview In the book "59 Seconds: Think a Little, Change a Lot" Wiseman presents quite a lot of self help tips where the results have been really studied. So it is more practical then "write down your goals and happiness will come" so I will break the book down and go through each suggestion he gives. So this ... See experiment

Matthew Cornell Sounds great, Fredrik. This is an example of a "meta experiment" or "line of inquiry" that's composed of multiple experiments. I have some too.

Fredrik Final day so todays mission was to write down what went well the last week. I have been working hard and have fot the moment given up quite a few things I like to do. So it has been a lot of overtime and most nights I have been quite tired. But still looking back it was not hard to find one thing that have gone well the last few days and just thinking about one made mor... See more

Fredrik Well that was one week of diarywriting completed so what did it actually do? Do I feel better? One of the big issues I have been having the last few years is to answer the question what do I want to do with my life. I used to be highly goalorientated but am now more living day to day. Writing thoughts on these different topics helps you to get an overview from the past ... See more

Fredrik Well I had to stop after something like 30 days in a row. I got a serious cold and couldn't proceed. But just by this short time I could feel that this is not the way to progress. It seems better to batch overload in some days and make sure to get rests in as well even though the load is not so high...

Matthew Cornell I very much like that you learned this would not work for you. A completely valid result. Good experiment, and I hope you get well quick.

Matthew Cornell Good experiment, Fredrik. Thanks for the summary. Avrum: Re tracking, I lay out some simple ways to collect data in my ebook (http://matthewcornell.org/products.html#where-did-my-day-go). Basically you tally or sum things of interest, such as # interruptions/day, # times pulled off-task, etc. Just paper and pen. Ask me if you need something more specific.

Brock Tice Fredrik: I had similar problems at work in the past, where I was responsible for producing research, but I was the lab tech/Linux guru, so people would always interrupt me with questions and problems. I made some attempts to use a "Do Not Disturb" sign, or set a time in the afternoon specifically for that stuff, with moderate success. The most successful thin... See more

Fredrik Back after the vacation I could I went a bit overboard when learning phrases to use. In the end I maybe used ten of them in three weeks as English still is the universal language. Had a great trip anyway and a fun experience in learning where I learned some techniques to speed it up.
