Vacation in Maine -- Bear Country, Stephen King and Cone Heads,

Created by Liza Cunningham Aug 15, 2009

Thumb

Overview Going on vacation to a small family cabin in the woods, only cold water. Apparently, there are people who have cone heads (no joke) living in the area. The lake may be full of leeches.
Vacations are usually really hard for me, especially if I don't have internet (tbd) so trying to think of this positively.

Liza Cunningham Hi Dan -- funny we are neighbors this week! You are lucky to live in such a wonderful area! Heat has been okay actually so the cold lake is just perfect.

Liza Cunningham On the drive back I decided we could stop as often as we wanted to make the drive fun. This worked great and made the drive fun. We stopped once for coffee, a lottery ticket and ice cream. We stopped again to play miniature golf. When the focus is on the journey it can be really sweet.

Reverse Teasing 1 Week

Created by Liza Cunningham Aug 15, 2009

Thumb

Overview Instead of teasing other people, even in good humor, when I feel like I am about to tease someone I will stop and either turn it on myself or resist the urge. See experiment

Comment

Matthew Cornell I had a similar idea a while back, FYI - we're on the same wavelength!

ExperimentIdea: Turn the "play the ____ card" into something positive. Think ahead of time about "cards" the other party might play (race, sympathy, etc.) then mentally play that card in your head FOR THEM. Keep it positive by turning on your empathy, like the Stephen C... See more

Dan Owen Self-deprecation = opposite of teasing? Sounds right. Could it be that teasing is negative self-talk directed at others? There's more going on here than meets the eye. Good experiment.

Test Amazon Widgets

Created by Liza Cunningham Jul 28, 2009

Thumb

Overview See if more relevant ads show up now that code is on the server See experiment

Comment

Liza Cunningham Amazon widgets still aren't delivering, perhaps because they are irrelevant to content? Or perhaps because widgets don't drive much traffic. Curious, but I think its time to try something else.

Comment

Matthew Cornell Let's try an experiment to tease these apart. Is it possible to hand-code something that would be relevant? Would require generality across all lists...

Treat Clients Like My Best Friends

Created by Liza Cunningham Jul 13, 2009

Thumb

Overview When a client emails or calls I will try to think of them as someone I really adore (rather than someone who needs something or wants changes). How would I talk to that person? How would I make them feel important? How would I handle requests that are hard to do?

Try to listen, educate, and remember we are o... See experiment

Liza Cunningham Had a good call with client. Talked to him like he was an old friend. Envisioning the call this way really helped me vibrate the right energy.

Working at Night/Summer Schedule Completed

Created by Liza Cunningham Jul 02, 2009 | Tags Family, Work

Thumb

Overview Change my schedule so I work in the morning from 10-12 then take the afternoon off to spend time with Jack.

Then back to work from 8-midnight. See experiment

Comment

Liza Cunningham Okay, this has not worked at all. Instead I am taking Jack in the morning until noon which is great because I get to spend time with him. Then I work from noon until 5 or 6 pm, which is in fact a pretty solid workday. And I am not working at night.

Jul 07, 2009

Comment

Liza Cunningham This has made me realize that I have to forgive myself if my schedule is a little off during the summer. if I work 4 hours during the day, then a few more hours at night, and it changes every day that is okay. I just need to roll with it and appreciate the small accomplishments each day.
