improve sleep hygiene New Experiment

Created by Matthew Cornell 2 days ago | Tags health, mood, sleep, energy, fatigue, exhaustion

Thumb

Overview I will try a sequence of individual strategies to improve my sleep, which as been off for months due to recent, large stressors. I haven't yet clarified which I'll try, and in what order, but I want to capture the experiment here in Edison. See experiment

Matthew Cornell I decided to do a 1:15 mountain bike ride this afternoon as a test on sleep tonight. I kept it relatively low key, just in case. Interestingly, my mood went south a bit after the ride.

New
Liza Cunningham Mood going south after extreme exercise could be directly tied to your adrenals being over-taxed. Or a drop in cortisol. It sounds like it could be time for a saliva test. Have you been tracking body temp? Does it fluctuate more than 0.2 in the afternoon?

One hundred push ups New Experiment

Created by Jake Mitchell 5 days ago | Tags health, fitness, routine, push-up

Thumb

Overview I'm going to follow the plan at http://hundredpushups.com and eventually do 100 push ups straight. I just did 26 "good form" push ups for the initial test, so that means I start the program in week 3 under the "> 25 push ups" column. Wednesday will be day one, and I'll proceed with day two on Fri... See experiment

Comment

Jake Mitchell On they Week 1 page they advise to start on Week 3 if you can do more than 20 push ups. I disagree. I'm still stuck on day 1 of Week 3: Set 1: 14 Set 2: 18 Set 3: 14 Set 4: 14 Set 5: 7 There was a slight regression there, but I'm pretty sure that's just the initial hump. I felt sore much sooner today, so my body's probably just getting used to repairing tho... See more

Try melatonin to see impact on sleep Completed

Created by Matthew Cornell Sep 19, 2009 | Tags health, mood, sleep, melatonin

Thumb

Overview I'll take 3mg at night for two weeks and see the effect it has on sleeping. I'll measure informally (we need that iPhone app, darn it!) See experiment

Comment

Matthew Cornell My sleep's been off due to the meds I took for gum surgery (http://edison.thinktrylearn.com/experiments/show/139), so I'll follow my MD's suggestion to increase to 3x3mg pills at night.

Matthew Cornell Update: I stopped the melatonin, and the result seemed to be no difference. More in my new experiment, improve sleep hygiene - http://edison.thinktrylearn.com/experiments/show/186

eliminate chipmunks from house foundation and crawlspace Completed

Created by Marmat Kat Jun 30, 2010 | Tags house, chipmunks, rodents, damage, crawlspace, pests

Profile_default_thumb

Overview Situation: We have a chipmunk infestation problem in our foundation that's been worsening the last two years. We have dozens of holes around the house, and wide areas of dug up turf. The grass doesn't bother me so much, but when insulating a large, tight crawlspace recently I discovered lots of activity, including chewed... See experiment

Matthew Cornell Congratulations, Marmat. Thanks for sharing on Edison.

Marmat Kat They're baaaaack. I found a new hole, so I'll re-activate. I added some mesh across the top to try keeping the squirrels out. I never did get the coyote urine - that will happen this week.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey New Experiment

Created by Diane 6 days ago | Tags For arthritis pain

Thumb

Overview I have been using this every day for many years now. Old vermont folk remedy. I use it for arthritis discomfort. It takes a month or so to get to "critical mass" and relieve the symptoms. It is not a pill that takes the pain away instantly. It takes some effort. I have never met anyone except my family that bel... See experiment

Matthew Cornell Experiment over, then?

Comment

Diane No, I think not. I will wait until I have a natural interruption (vacation) and then observe closely what happens. The first thing I usually find is that I can't kneel because the pain in my knees is excruciating. Then I will comment. it may be a while but I need to observe closely and write it down, so thanks for the tool!

Koen I've implemented a GTD/ZTD-like setup since 3 years now and it's been one of the most fundamental changes in my life. It's certainly about productivity, but for me even more about being at ease, less stress and mor energy/time for some creative thinking. Go for it Avrum!

Increase Naturthroid Prescription by 1/4

Created by Liza Cunningham 10 days ago | Tags hypothyroid

Thumb

Overview Increase thyroid medicine back up to 2.5 pills a day (tried decreasing to 2 1/4) but noticed body temp dropped to 98.0-98.2 and 2 lb weight gain. See experiment

Comment

Liza Cunningham I reduced the meds because I was concerned I was getting some hyperthyroid symptoms; jittery, heart palpitations here and there, which could be vitamin related, so I needed to test and see if it was thyroid meds (thyroid treatment takes tons of experimenting). But when I reduced the medicine my body temp dropped from a steady 98.4 to 97.7 - 98.2, not good. And wei... See more

Comment

Liza Cunningham Increasing my medicine again has proven to be good. Lost 1 lb of the 3-4 lbs I gained in those 10 days. Energy feels good, body temp 98.2 at 5 pm. So body temp has come back up. Yay!
