One week with focus on kindness and giving Completed

Created by Fredrik Nov 11, 2011 | Category Spiritual

Thumb

Overview During this week I will focus on finding acts of kindness and giving to see what it gives me mentally. See experiment

Comment

Fredrik This was fun and didn't require much effort from me. What I learnt was keeping more notice on other people to find situations to help out.

Matthew Cornell Well done, Fredrik. Thanks for sharing it with us. I need to do more of this - good modeling. Re 'keeping an eye open for nice little things to do for others', I had a chance to do exactly that. We have a friend that my wife hikes with, and the friend is unstable while walking. She's fallen a few times, but still wants to get out. A few weeks ago I saw a hiker while I w... See more

Overview I'll get the second half of my gum surgery on 12/12/011. The experiment for part one was: Edison - get gum surgery using Alloderm: http://edison.thinktrylearn.com/experiments/show/139

Matthew Cornell Recovery going very well, and the two week exam was positive. However, following my perio's orders re: mountain biking (strenuous exercise) I waited the time he recommended (which made it this last Monday), and did an hour ride. Felt great during it, but the next day noticed some mild throbbing. I think I may have set back the recovery a little, but it's probably OK. Wi... See more

Matthew Cornell Ok, an update. It's been about seven weeks, and the recovery is more complex than last time. First, the lower portion's 'flap' came loose and dropped down. (An aside: Something you don't want your perio to say when he looks in your mouth is 'interesting.') Because of my anxiety, when I noticed some blood spotting a 4 weeks ago I decided to try to ignore it and wait two ... See more

The 96 Minute Rule

Peer Experiment

Created by Stacey Summitt Mann 18 days ago | Category Work

Profile_default_thumb

Overview Improve your productivity by totally focusing on your most important task, or tasks, for at least 96 uninterrupted minutes each workday. See experiment

Comment

Matthew Cornell I'm curious how this is going. It's a classic time management technique, based on the 80-20 principle, if I'm not mistaken.

Keeping Track of the Keys

Created by Stacey Summitt Mann 18 days ago | Category Other

Overview I will have a standard spot for my keys at home and in the office. The objective in having this "standard spot" is to reduce the number and time spent on "finding misplaced keys." See experiment

Don't lose the cell phone!

Created by Stacey Summitt Mann 18 days ago | Category Other

Profile_default_thumb

Overview I will have standard location for my phone at the office. When I arrive in the morning, it goes into the magnetic basket and is turned to vibrate. When I leave, it returns to sound and goes in my coat pocket. :) See experiment

Stacey Summitt Mann Boo...such a good streak going. Forgot it int he gym as I was using phone as a stop watch. I did, however, remember to go get it so it's sort of a half ass success. Haha

Matthew Cornell This is an interesting experiment, Stacey. For me, sometimes I have to adjust me expectations of what 'success' means with respect to personal experiments. Sometimes I learn so much along the way that, regardless of the outcome, I feel I've improved myself. Good work!

When to take One a Day Vitamin? In the morning?

Created by Stacey Summitt Mann 17 days ago | Category Health/Medicine

Profile_default_thumb

Overview I want to begin taking One a Day vitamins; given my busy schedule, eating lunch (or breakfast...or dinner) is sometimes sporadic and not necessarily the most healthy. As such, supplementing with a daily vitamin makes sense. See experiment

Matthew Cornell I'm very curious about taking vitamins, esp. how to measure the impact on health. I've been thinking there are categories of trust in which we use scientific results as a guide, rather than direct (or at least immediate) results as data regarding effectiveness of taking an action. Diet is one case, for example. Eating a vegetarian diet is likely great for you in the lon... See more

attract and keep new Edison users

Created by Matthew Cornell Mar 23, 2011 | Category Work

Overview Now that 2.0 is out I have all the features I need to demonstrate what people can do with Edison. Now all I need is more users, in addition to the wonderful ones who use it now :-) I'd welcome any of your advice! See experiment

Stacey Summitt Mann Absolutley LOVE this site...keep working on the improvements! It was exactly what I needed at the right time, and oddly enough..I found it searching google while trying to come up with my own idea for a blog. Matthew Cornell Thanks so much, Stacey. Sounds like you get the idea behind this. I like your classroom idea. If you have some thoughts on next steps, feel free to run them past me ( http://www.matthewcornell.org/contact/ ). Right now I'm focusing on the money-earning side of my life, but self-experimentation and my Think, Try, Learn philosophy are still percolating.

Use a hair towel instead of a regular towel

Created by Sacha Chua Oct 19, 2011 | Category Home/Garden

Profile_default_thumb

Overview Goal: A place for everything, and everything in its place. Subgoal: Minimize the number of opportunities to misplace things or leave things lying around. Experiment: Use a hair towel instead of a regular towel so that I can avoid forgetting a wet towel in the kitchen or other areas. See experiment

Comment

Matthew Cornell I like it, Sacha. Little starts like this can lead to farther-reaching ones, I've found. They may seem trivial, but as David Allen captured so well, there's a mental overhead associated with decision-making. Thanks for experimenting.

Stacey Summitt Mann How is this experiment going for you? Have you made it a habit yet or give up on it? I have to tell you, I bought one on a whim at BBB...one of the impulse purchase TV Ad specials...and I absolutely love it! The hair towel is also WAY less bulky than using a normal towel (I also get in trouble for wet towels on floor). I find myself walking around the house with it o... See more
